Creating Time Signature Changes in Ableton’s Arrangement View

In the previous 2 posts, we looked at tempo changes in both the Arrangement and Session views, but we also have another issue to contend with. In some music we have time signature changes. So, in the next 2 posts, we’ll be looking at creating time signature changes in both views. So, let’s get into it.

Adding In Time Signature Changes

In our example, we have a song that’s Intro, Chorus, Turnaround, Bridge & Outro are in 3/4 time, but the Verses are in 4/4. In order to keep in sync with Ableton’s global grid we have to add in time signature changes.

Creating time signature changes is fairly straightforward, the harder task is to determine where the time signature changes are in the song. Helpfully, we’ve got you covered so you’ll only have to do this process once. Check out this post to find out more.

Once you know where all of your time signatures are, all that’s left to do is to add in the Time Signature changes in Ableton. Simply, right click and select ‘Insert Time Signature Change’. Repeat this process until you’ve added them to the entire song.
