Uploading Tracks to Loop Community
In our previous post, we discussed running tracks in Logic Pro, but in these next few posts we’ll discuss a different method, using the Prime Multitrack App by Loop Community.
What is the Prime Multitrack App?
The Prime Multitrack App is an application that allows you to run your tracks and/or click tracks for live performances. It works like a DAW but has taken out a lot of the complications with using DAWs on stage. It has great functionality and is really straightforward to use. You can easily create setlists, add songs, reorder setlists, mute tracks, change song arrangements, plus a lot more which we’ll discuss in a future post. It’s created by a company called Loop Community, a website that sells multitracks that you can purchase. It requires a subscription to run but there is a free 5GB plan which might be fine for your specific needs, but if you’ve got a big library of songs, you’re probably going to have to upgrade to a paid plan. Check them out at www.loopcommunity.com
Just to clarify, Loop Community is the company that owns the Prime Multitrack App. All of the songs are uploaded to and purchased from Loop Community, but are available to play/perform in the Prime Multitrack App. In this post we’ll cover uploading your songs and in the next we’ll cover creating setlists in the Prime app.
Uploading Your Songs to Loop Community
While the site accepts a wide range of audio files, you cannot upload the audio files directly. Your first step is to compress all of your audio files/stems into a ZIP file, this includes all instrument and vocal tracks as well as clicks and guide tracks. You must also repeat this process for every track.
After that, head over to Loop Community’s website and, after signing up, click the upload icon in the top right.
Click ‘click here to browse your file’ then select the ZIP file with your stems, then ‘Upload’
The upload process doesn’t take very long but while your file is uploading, feel free to click ‘Continue’ which will take you to the next screen where you input all of your songs’ information. It asks for the song name, artist, tempo, time signature and key. You can also upload an album cover, so make sure to have all of these saved into a folder where you can conveniently access them.
Once your song has uploaded, the next step is to name all of your stems. Loop Community will take the names from the audio files within your ZIP file, and if they’ve been named properly, you won’t have to do very much. (Note: You must use underscores instead of spaces if your track name has 2 or more words! For example ‘LEAD_VOCAL’) You must also choose a track ‘type’ that corresponds to the instrument playing on the track. There are a limited number of categories but we’re sure you’ll find one that fits.
Once you’re done, press ‘Continue’ to submit your track and then you’re done!
Closing Thoughts
The Prime Multitrack is a great way to run tracks. It’s simple to use and is extremely versatile. We’d definitely recommend it if you’re starting out using tracks on stage and have a library of songs. If you’ve not got a laptop you can use an iPad or even an iPhone. There’s also some other features like song transitions, custom arrangements, MIDI control and audio routing. We’ve got another post coming dedicated to all of that stuff but we hope you’ve found this short intro helpful. Next time we’ll be covering how to use the tracks we’ve uploaded in the Prime app.
